Published July 15 on CNW/Cision

The new partnership will help bring more educational supplies and resources to youth in Canada through a $100,000 donation.

MISSISSAUGA, ON, July 15, 2021BGC Canada (formerly Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada) and Kleenex® Brand announced a new partnership today to help bring much needed school supplies and additional resources for out of school programs at BGC Clubs, just in time for the back-to-school season. Kleenex Brand is committing to a $100,000 donation that comes ahead of the much-anticipated school year and will help ensure kids across Canada have the confidence to thrive for all of life’s moments.

The $100,000 donation from Kleenex will help provide the following for kids and teens at BGC Clubs across Canada:

  • Basic school supplies for kids as they head back to the classroom
  • More resources and supplies for Clubs to run before and after school programming
  • Additional resources to support caring Club staff as they boost educational growth for young people
  • Added capacity for Clubs to support young people as they go back to school, from mental health check-ins to homework help to healthy meals

“Whether online or in-person, our Clubs will be there to help young people when they head back to school in September,” says Owen Charters, President & CEO, BGC Canada. “This generous donation to kick off our partnership with Kleenex will give BGC Clubs even more resources and capacity to support young people and families as we start the school year and begin the process of collectively recovering from the pandemic.”

Through life-changing programs, community-based services, and relationships with peers and caring adults, BGC Canada helps kids and teens develop the skills they need to succeed. And it works—a recent study of Club youth in Manitoba, using 12 years of data, determined that young people begin to experience positive outcomes in as few as 20 visits to a Club, including higher math scores and more engagement in learning. And a study of Clubs in B.C. and Alberta found that 77% of young people who attend a Club want to challenge themselves more and try new things, while 80% feel more confident taking on responsibilities and helping others.

“With many BGC Clubs opening up across the country, we recognize the need for supplies and resources is greater than ever,” says Natalia Surina, Kleenex Canada Marketing Director. “As a brand that exists to help you take on life’s ordinary and extraordinary moments, we’re proud to partner with BGC Clubs that directly serve the communities where were live and work, and in time for the back-to-school season.”

NBA and Hershey Canada announce multiyear partnership https://www.bgccan.com/en/nba-and-hershey-canada-announce-multiyear-partnership/ Tue, 01 Jun 2021 14:16:06 +0000 https://www.bgccan.com/?p=73039

HERSHEY to become the official chocolate of the NBA in Canada. The partnership launched with grassroots initiative to grow youth basketball participation and improve access to the game across the country.

TORONTO, May 11, 2021 – The National Basketball Association (NBA) and HERSHEY Canada Inc. today announced a multiyear partnership that makes HERSHEY a marketing partner as the Official Chocolate of the NBA in Canada.

As part of today’s announcement, the NBA, HERSHEY and BGC Canada (formerly Boys & Girls Club of Canada) officially unveiled “Sweeter Together,” a three-year community-driven initiative to grow basketball participation among young athletes, invest in new basketball infrastructure and improve access to the game nationwide.

As part of Sweeter Together, HERSHEY will donate a minimum of $300,000 CAD this year to support basketball initiatives in Canada with its “Buy A Bar, Build A Court” retail program incorporating iconic HERSHEY brands REESE’S, HERSHEY’S and OH HENRY!.

The Buy A Bar, Build A Court program will tip-off with HERSHEY and the NBA refurbishing two basketball courts, one at a BGC in Scarborough, ON, and a second at a BGC in Burnaby, BC. The courts will be re-imagined through custom designs from two artists, Scarborough’s Jacquie Comrie and Vancouver-based design studio Chairman Ting, leaving a meaningful impression on the community for years to come.

HERSHEY and the NBA will also provide new backboards, equipment, and hundreds of basketball kits to dozens of BGC clubs across the country, furthering accessibility to the game of basketball.

“The NBA is looking forward to partnering with HERSHEY Canada and BGC Canada to make the game more accessible to young Canadians coast to coast,” shared Leah MacNab, NBA Canada Managing Director. “The grassroots investment is essential to the healthy growth of the game and the communities where the game lives.”

“HERSHEY Canada is excited to partner with the NBA and BGC Canada to create more moments of goodness by investing in grassroot basketball initiatives across the country to help make this sport as easy and fun to play as our bars are to eat,” remarked Sam Chehabeddine, GM, Hershey Canada.

“We know that physical activity and organized sport are cornerstones for the overall health and well-being of young people,” said Owen Charters, President & CEO, BGC Canada. “We are delighted that Hershey and the NBA have partnered together to provide BGC clubs across the country with updated spaces and equipment that will make the game of basketball more accessible for thousands of kids and teens.”

Fans can visit SweeterTogether.ca to learn more about Buy A Bar, Build A Court, interact with a 3D rendering of the court and watch how the artists bring it to life. Fans will also be able to participate in sweepstakes for the opportunity to win official NBA prizes throughout the year.
