Toronto, August 19, 2024 – Baskin-Robbins, the world’s largest chain of ice cream specialty shops, expands its partnership with BGC Canada (formerly Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada) with the sponsorship of four scholarships helping eligible Canadian students invest in their post-secondary education. The recipients of the first round of scholarships, which are part of the ice cream brand’s Pink Spoon Community Program, are Chad from Toronto, Mahad from Ottawa, Jett from North Simcoe and Katie from Stettler, Alberta. Each student will receive $4,000 to help them on their path to academic success.

“A solid education is a critical element in life,” says Natalie Joseph, spokesperson for Baskin-Robbins in Canada. “We’ve been honoured and privileged to work with BGC Canada over the years and this expansion is a testament to our belief in their work and the importance of investing in young people. Congratulations to each of the recipients.”

The first four recipients receiving funds from Baskin-Robbins are affiliated with Clubs in both Ontario and Alberta.

Chad, a resident of Toronto and member at BGC Albion Club, is pursuing a computer systems technician diploma at Seneca College in the fall.

“When I found out I received the Baskin-Robbins Scholarship, I just thought how all my hard work and dedication…has culminated to this moment in time.”

From BGC Ottawa, Mahad is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Carlton University.

“I am very grateful to be one of the recipients of the scholarship provided by Baskin-Robbins. This scholarship will ease the financial burden of attending post-secondary.”

Jett from BGC North Simcoe is pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Science in Child Studies at the University of Guelph.

“The Baskin- Robbins scholarship means so much to me and my family. For years I have dedicated hours of my life to this organization because of how inclusive and life changing it has been for me.”

Katie, from BGC Stettler & District in Alberta is excited for the opportunity this scholarship gives her.

“Growing up, the sciences have always been a passion of mine. I dreamed of discovering new possibilities within the world of science as a woman by breaking through societal standards and paving the way for other women to attain their educational goals. I am excited to pursue a career in the rigorous STEM field and this scholarship will allow me to succeed.”

Across Canada, students are getting ready to begin a new, more costly academic year. A recent study by Statista suggests that the cost of a post-secondary education has grown – an increase of *close to 3 percent in 2023 in tuition fees alone.

“The students have shared with us how excited, happy and relieved they are to receive this gift,” says Brooke Duval, Senior Director, Partnerships & Philanthropy at BGC Canada. “It is so rewarding to work with organizations like Baskin-Robbins on programs that truly make a difference.”

Through its Pink Spoon Community Program, Baskin-Robbins has been a partner of BGC Canada for the past seven years. The partnership includes an annual in-shop fundraiser and in-kind ice cream donations.

TORONTO, JANUARY 16, 2023 – Baskin-Robbins Canada remitted today a cheque of $30,000 to BGC Canada, a registered charity that has engaged and empowered millions of children and youth across Canada since 1900. The funds were raised through the brand’s Pink Spoon fundraiser campaign, which took place across all Baskin-Robbins locations in Canada October and November 2023. Baskin-Robbins allocated 15 per cent of proceeds from the sale of its newest line of desserts, The Ultimate Take Home Sundae, as well as through the sale of paper icons in the shape of ice cream cones.

“BGC Canada is a lifesaver and ‘life enhancer’ in so many communities across the country,” said Natalie Joseph, spokesperson for Baskin-Robbins Canada. “We are happy to share a portion of the success of our newest dessert, The Ultimate Take Home Sundae, with them.”

Funds raised through the campaign will go towards supporting BGC Canada programs that focus on education, physical activity, leadership development, and overall positive youth development. By contributing to BGC Canada’s initiatives, Baskin-Robbins Canada aims to play a role in creating opportunities for young people to reach their full potential.

“Young Canadians deserve a safe, supportive, and enriching environment where they can develop the skills and confidence they’ll need to flourish and grow in character,” said Rachael MacKenzie-Neill, Vice-President, Development & Public Affairs at BCG Canada. “We are grateful for the support of the Baskin-Robbins Canada team and its guests who enthusiastically contributed to the work that we do. Together, we’re making a positive impact on the lives of countless children and youth in our country.”

Baskin-Robbins Canada first partnered with BGC Canada in 2017. Together, in that time, the partnership has helped to raise more than $130, 000 in funds and in-kind value.
